AC-V — Speed control for AC fans

SmartFan AC-V is a versatile, low cost fan speed control designed for HVAC applications. AC-V will accept a 20 mA current loop or 0 to 5 VDC control signal and proportionally control fan speed over a range of about 4 to 1, as well as turn the fan on and off. It operates at 60 Hz using a triac phase control principle. AC-V is available for 115 or 230VAC, PSC or shaded pole fans and blowers with current ratings up to 8.0 Amps. Because the control signal is electrically isolated from the fan, it can be derived from nearly any source. A 5 VDC, 24 VDC or 24 VAC power source is required.

  • Under low speed conditions, acoustical noise and energy usage are substantially reduced
  • Current rating to 8.0 Amps in still air at 104°F (40°C)
  • Output compensated against changes in power line voltage
  • Control signal is 0-20 mA or 0-5 VDC (0-10 VDC available) as determined by jumpers on the circuit board
  • Fan speed is proportional to control signal. Control signal can be used to switch the fans on and off
  • Models optimized for PSC or shaded pole fans at 60 Hz (50 Hz available)
  • Includes an EMI filter
  • Can also control heaters, compressors, pumps, etc.

INSTALLATION
 

Mounting

To satisfy safety agency requirements (UL, CSA, IEC, VDE), allow 1/4” (6.3 mm) between the circuit board and chassis ground and 5/16” (8 mm) to any uninsulated secondary circuits. To satisfy UL, a normal Blow Fuse rated 15 Amps or less should be used in the power line circuit.
